Fun Bar Bets, Easy Magic, and Other Gimmicks
The Ice Cube and The Hair
For this trick you will need 1 victim, 2 ice cubes, some salt, and 2 pieces of human hair. What you want to do is bet someone they can’t pick up an ice cube with one piece of human hair. Most people will try to tie the hair around the ice cube. Others will try to just lift it up. But whatever they try, they will not be able to get the ice cube off the bar. Once they give up, place the ice cube on the bar, take a strand of human hair and place it across the top of the ice cube. Next, take a little salt and sprinkle it on top of the hair and ice cube. The salt will cause the ice cube to re-freeze around the hair. In a few seconds, you will be able to gently lift the ice cube off of the bar.
Coin Mentalism
This is a mind reading trick. Give your "victim" a penny and a nickel, and ask them to put one in each hand without letting you see which coin is where. The trick is that you'll be able to tell which coin is in each hand by using the power of your mind. Explain that they need to think about each coin so that you can read their mind. Ask your helper to multiply the value of the coin in their left hand by two without telling you the answer. After a second's pause, ask them if they have the answer. Then ask them to multiply the value of the coin in their right hand by 13, wait one second and ask if they have the answer. The length of time it took them to come up with the answers to your questions will tell you which coin is in which hand. If your helper came up with both answers pretty quickly, the penny is in the left hand, (because 5 x 2 and 1 x 13 are easy to calculate). If it took a little longer to multiply by 13, then the nickel is in their right hand.
Roman Math
Start with 16 matches arranged on a table like this:
I + II + III = IIII (Use the matches to make the "+" and "=" signs). The bet is to move just one match to make this equation make sense. Bet your audience a drink that they can't solve it in 5 minutes. The solution would have made perfect sense to the ancient Romans. It looks like this: I + I + I + I = IIII To do this, take just one of the matches in the II and place it across the middle match in the III.
3-D
Start with 6 bottle caps or coasters and arrange them in a 'T' shape. Place 4 bottle caps in a straight line, and then place the other two caps on either side of the top cap. The challenge is to make 2 rows of 4 caps each. However, you can only move one bottle cap. When everyone's finished fumbling around, you can provide the very simple solution. Take the bottle cap from the bottom of your T-shape and place it on the bottle cap at the top. And Done. You've made two rows of four.
Mental Mind Bullet
It is possible to do this trick with a cigarette or a straw.
Take the straw on the tabletop and explain how you will use your mind to push it away from yourself. Bend over the straw and hold your hand over it, wiggling your fingers as you try to mentally "connect" with your target. The real point of moving your fingers is to distract your audience because the trick is to slightly open your mouth and simply exhale. Even if you're not right on target, your exhalation will move across the flat surface of the table and accomplish your goal.
Blow in a Bottle
Step 1: bet someone that when you tear a piece of a napkin and roll it into a ball and you place that ball on the lip of the beer bottle that they can’t blow it into the bottle no matter how close they get or how hard they blow. Then roll up a piece of napkin into a ball, place it on the lip of sideways tilted beer bottle. Let your sucker try to blow it in without tilting or moving the bottle in any way. After they realize they can’t, laugh and collect your winnings.
Circumfrence vs. Height
For this bet, you can find any willing suckers. You go up to them and ask them if they want to play a propositional bet. You then ask them which they think is longer, the circumference of a glass of beer or the height of the beer. You can then stack things up to improve their odds and make it seem as if you’re stand is impossible. There is no gimmick to this bet. The average height of a beer glass is 15 cm while the average circumference of a beer glass is a whopping 27 cm. The appearances can be deceiving. The trick is to keep your stack pile less than the entire height of the glass
5 Questions
Tell your victim that you are going to ask them 5 questions and all they have to do is LIE on all 5 questions. If they manage to lie on all 5 questions than you offer to buy them a drink, but they answer one right, they have to buy you a drink. They always comply. You start the question e asking. The first three questions don’t really matter. You can ask how many people are in their immediate family. What color their eyes are. Etc. But on the 4th question, you look at the person with confusion and ask, " WHAT QUESTION ARE WE ON?" Most of the time, they say 4, at which point you explain how they lost because they were too generous and just trying to be helpful. For the the clever ones that understand what your doing and LIE (Like their supposed to). If they manage to fight through this trap, you can get them on the 5th question, which is "OU’VE PLAYED THIS BEFORE HAVEN’T YOU?" 99% answer correctly WHICH IS NO! and you have won your bet. Finally explain to them that the 5th question is designed to get them on their ego.
The Shot in the Hat
All this trick requires is any type of hat and a shot of alcohol. Bet your victim that you can put the shot on the table, put your hat over it and drink it without ever touching the hat. They will gladly except this bet because the feat seems impossible for you to accomplish. The solution to this problem is easy. All you need to do is pretend to magically drink the shot (the more dramatic the better). Then say “I have drank it.” The victim will protest and say that you didn’t. Then you simply say “see for yourself” or “look.” When the victim lifts up the hat to inspect the shot glass, you quickly remove it and take the shot. You were able to drink the shot and not touch the hat thus winning your bet.
