How to Tell a Good Story

We have developed 4 basic, primitive guidelines for telling stories.

1. The emotional experience and physical happenings are equally expressed in the story
   (i.e I jumped away from the car thinking to myself “holy shit I almost died”)
2. The story is filled with imagery yet free of irrelevant information.
   “The moist towel cracked a loud snap as it struck the naked butt cheek”
3. The story conveys that you are a person of value.
   “And then I said, let’s fuckin roll. So we rolled.”
   “This girl was spell binding and intelligent. But I for me there has to be something more than that. There has to be connection. And even though she liked me, I wasn’t feeling that spark of light. So I sat her down and told how I felt. And even though she was upset, she was very thankful for me being honest. “
4. The story ends strong with a punch line, moral or life lesson

Some Common Storytelling Mistakes to Avoid

• They are too long
• They don’t convey value (emotional or languaged)
• They don’t pertain to a topic of interest
• They don’t finish strong
• They aren’t told with punctuated body language or kino touch.
